Making Every Contact Count

Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is about using the power of short conversations to help residents stay well, access the support they need and cope better. This training will teach you the MECC approach and help you to play a role in this important initiative, part of Mission Waltham Forest’s prevention agenda.

A ‘MECC interaction’ takes a matter of minutes, and is not intended to add to existing workloads, but rather complement existing approaches. It is about using opportunities during conversations to deliver consistent and concise healthy lifestyle information. This then encourages people to become more engaged in conversations about their health, at scale, across organisations and populations.

What it involves

In this e-learning you will learn to:

  • Understand MECC principles and use the 3As model for conversations (Ask-Advise-Assist)
  • Reflect on what you already do well and highlight any challenges or areas for development
  • Introduce resources that support good conversations, including signposting information

Who is this for?

This e-learning is for anyone working in a voluntary or community sector organisation, volunteers, NHS employees and anyone interested in community navigation and making every contact count. Evidence has shown that wide use of the MECC approach by people and organisations in health and care could potentially have a significant impact on the health of the population.

How long will it take?

This e-learning should take approximately 30-40 minutes.

Do I get a certificate?

Every e-learner is asked to fill in a pre and post-module survey to provide some monitoring data, which is collected by the Waltham Forest Public Health team. Once you’ve completed the e-learning, you will receive a general certificate. For a personalised certificate, contact [email protected].
